Barcelona and Bayern Munich are reportedly monitoring Aston Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi following his impressive start to life in the Premier League.
The Switzerland international has quickly attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs after establishing himself as an important member of Unai Emery’s squad.
According to TEAMtalk, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are among several European heavyweights keeping a close watch on the 21-year-old, who joined Villa from Freiburg during the summer transfer window.
Manzambi was the subject of intense interest before his move to England, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa both agreeing deals worth just under £60million with Freiburg.
However, the midfielder opted to join Emery’s side, a decision that has already begun to pay off.
Despite missing the opening weeks of the campaign with a knee injury, Manzambi made his full debut against Tottenham towards the end of September and has since emerged as one of Villa’s standout performers.
The Swiss international has registered either a goal or an assist in every match since breaking into the starting lineup.
He also scored the winning goal against Newcastle, the club he rejected during the summer, further underlining his growing importance at Villa Park.
His performances have reportedly caught the attention of scouts from several leading European clubs, with some viewing him as a “superstar in the making.”
Bayern Munich are understood to have maintained their interest in Manzambi after initially considering a move for him while he was still at Freiburg.
Although the Bundesliga champions eventually decided against pursuing a deal, his impressive performances in England have strengthened their admiration for the midfielder.
Barcelona have equally been impressed by the youngster’s development and are reportedly keeping track of his progress under Emery.
The Catalan giants are understood to have joined the growing list of clubs monitoring the midfielder, although there is no indication that they have made a formal approach.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have also been linked with Manzambi, with reports suggesting the Reds view him as a possible long-term replacement for one of their established midfielders.
Despite the growing interest, the Switzerland international is not believed to be considering an immediate departure from Aston Villa.
Manzambi is reportedly happy at Villa Park and remains convinced that working under Emery offers him the right environment to continue developing.
The midfielder is also understood to believe he can learn considerably from the Spanish tactician before deciding on the next stage of his career.
However, should Manzambi maintain his impressive form, interest from Barcelona, Bayern Munich and other European heavyweights could intensify ahead of future transfer windows.
