Paris Saint-Germain will not sign an emergency joker player to replace the injured Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, opting instead to wait for the winter transfer window, Foot01 reported. The Georgian forward suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear during Paris Saint-Germain’s victory against Barcelona, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
The European champions absorbed significant personnel losses during their clash with Barcelona. Manager Luis Enrique lost Ousmane Dembélé, Marquinhos, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in a single fixture. While the Ballon d’Or 2025 winner and the Brazilian defender are expected to return within a few weeks, Kvaratskhelia faces a long-term absence.
Under French football regulations, clubs facing long-term injuries can sign a single joker outside the normal transfer windows. However, that mechanism carries strict roster limitations. Utilizing a joker forces clubs to sign either a player who is currently a free agent or one who is already playing domestically in France.
Faced with those restrictive parameters, club executives held an emergency meeting on Thursday to evaluate the attacking department. Following those discussions, leadership decided against making an impulsive short-term addition. According to reports from insider account PSGInside_Actu, the club rejected a quick fix in favor of a calculated approach for January.
With immediate recruitment off the table, the sporting management group consisting of Luis Enrique and Luis Campos will begin tracking specific candidates for January. Several high-profile names have already emerged in connection with the French capital club. Targets under consideration include Nico Williams, Ibrahim Maza, Saïd El Mala, Paris Brunner, and Alphadjo Cissé.
In the interim, Luis Enrique must manage a congested fixture list using his existing squad. The manager relies on current depth to shoulder the attacking load, avoiding further fitness setbacks after a punishing week that stretched the roster’s physical limits.
