England's U15 World Cup match was abandoned following alleged racist incident

FIFA are investigating an allegation of racist abuse by a Republic of Ireland player that led to the abandonment of England's Under-15 World Cup match. The incident took place during Monday's match in Azerbaijan, when an England player was seen approaching the touchline to inform his coaching staff of the alleged abuse, before the complaint was brought to the referee's attention.

England's coaching staff then instructed their players to leave the pitch, with the Republic of Ireland leading 4-1 heading into the final minute of the match. FIFA have since confirmed they are investigating the incident and gathering reports to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegation.

"Fifa is aware of an incident at the U-15 World Cup and Festival match between England and the Republic of Ireland," a spokesperson said. "The match was abandoned by the referee following England's refusal to continue.

England head coach Matt Thorpe was seen calling the referee over before instructing his players to leave the pitch. Thorpe was reportedly told by the official that he 'could not hear.'

One of Thorpe's assistant coaches was then heard telling the referee 'we are reporting racism' before adding 'we do not want to play.' It was subsequently reported that a player was 'upset.'

A heated exchange reportedly took place between the two coaching teams as both sides sought to protect their players.

Neither the FA nor the FAI have yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
