Real Madrid have reportedly decided against selling Eduardo Camavinga during the January transfer window, with manager Jose Mourinho keen to retain the French midfielder for the remainder of the season.
The 23-year-old has faced uncertainty over his future at the Santiago Bernabeu following a reduction in his playing time, raising questions about his place in Mourinho’s plans.
However, according to Madrid Universal, citing Bernabeu Digital, the Spanish giants have no intention of allowing Camavinga to leave midway through the campaign.
Mourinho is understood to be determined to maintain sufficient midfield options as Los Blancos prepare for a demanding second half of the season.
Camavinga, who previously enjoyed a prominent role in Madrid’s midfield, has struggled to secure regular opportunities amid increased competition for places.
His situation had fuelled speculation that he could seek a move elsewhere in January to revive his fortunes.
Nevertheless, Mourinho’s position on the midfielder has reportedly strengthened following his improved performances in recent weeks.
The France international particularly impressed during Real Madrid’s recent victory over Barcelona, offering encouragement that he could still play an important role in the team’s plans.
Despite the decision to retain him, Camavinga is not guaranteed regular playing time and must continue to convince Mourinho that he deserves a place in the starting lineup.
The midfielder faces the challenge of adapting to the Portuguese tactician’s demands while competing with his teammates for opportunities.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are expected to reassess Camavinga’s long-term future at the end of the season rather than entertain offers during the winter transfer window.
The decision would allow the Frenchman additional time to regain his place in Mourinho’s plans while ensuring the club retain adequate midfield cover for the remainder of the campaign.
For now, Camavinga’s immediate future appears to be at the Bernabeu, although his situation could be revisited next summer.
