Jermain Defoe named the Premier League’s greatest substitute, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer third

BBC journalists have ranked the best substitutes in the history of the English Premier League, with former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe taking top spot.

Former Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu was placed second, while Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer completed the top three.

Former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko finished fourth, ahead of Javier Hernandez, who played for Manchester United and West Ham.

The ranking was based on goals scored after coming on as a substitute, along with the percentage of each player’s goals and assists that came from the bench.
