Aston Villa face fresh transfer concern as Barcelona and Real Madrid make “exciting” admission

Aston Villa have enjoyed an encouraging upturn in form after a difficult start to the 2026-27 campaign, with Unai Emery’s side beginning to find their rhythm in domestic and European competition.

The Villans initially struggled for consistency in the Premier League but have benefited from several impressive individual performances as Emery continues to reshape his squad following a busy summer transfer window.

One of the standout additions has been Johan Manzambi, who has made an immediate impact since arriving from Freiburg and looks increasingly comfortable in English football.

However, his impressive performances are already attracting attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, potentially creating a fresh challenge for Villa as they look to build for the future.

Barcelona and Real Madrid Interested in Johan Manzambi

Aston Villa could face growing competition to retain Johan Manzambi, with Barcelona and Real Madrid reportedly monitoring the midfielder following his impressive start at Villa Park.

According to Football Insider, former Villa scout Bryan King believes the two Spanish giants are already keeping a close eye on the Switzerland international.

Manzambi joined Villa from Freiburg during the summer in a deal worth just over £50million, turning down interest from Newcastle United to work under Emery.

The 21-year-old has wasted little time making his mark, scoring three goals and providing two assists in his first six appearances across all competitions.

His latest contribution came against Newcastle, where he scored the only goal in Villa’s 1-0 victory at St James’ Park on 17 October.

King has been particularly impressed by the midfielder’s ability to contribute in attacking areas, highlighting his energy, movement and eye for goal.

Speaking to , the former Villa scout said: “Very impressed. Very impressed with his first six or seven games. He’s just 21 years old.”

King also revealed that Barcelona and Real Madrid are already looking at the youngster, suggesting his early performances have attracted attention from some of the biggest names in European football.

Manzambi’s rise has been particularly impressive given his age and the demands of adapting to the Premier League after leaving the Bundesliga.

He also enjoyed an outstanding World Cup campaign with Switzerland, scoring three goals and providing two assists in four appearances, further strengthening his reputation as one of Europe’s exciting young midfield talents.

Villa will therefore be encouraged by the early returns on their investment, having beaten Newcastle to his signature and secured his services on a contract running until 2031.

That long-term agreement places the club in a strong negotiating position should interest from abroad develop into concrete offers.

Emery has also spoken positively about the midfielder’s attitude and willingness to improve, explaining that Manzambi understood the opportunities available to him at Villa before agreeing to the move.

The Villa manager said the youngster was professional, passionate about football and eager to develop within the team’s tactical system.

Those qualities will be important as Manzambi looks to maintain his impressive start and establish himself as a key figure in Emery’s plans.

For Villa, the immediate priority will be ensuring the midfielder continues to develop at Villa Park rather than becoming distracted by speculation over his future.

Barcelona and Real Madrid’s reported interest is a testament to his progress, but there is currently no indication that either club has made a formal offer.

With Manzambi tied down until 2031, Villa are under no immediate pressure to sell and can afford to take a long-term view of his development.

Nevertheless, if the Swiss international continues to perform at his current level, interest from Europe’s elite could intensify, presenting Villa with another test of their ambition to retain their best young talent.
