WNBA star Angel Reese is in a relationship with fellow professional basketball player Wendell Carter Jr.

The Atlanta Dream forward and the NBA athlete were first publicly linked in May 2025, per The New York Times. After months of dating rumors, Carter, who plays for the Orlando Magic, confirmed their relationship during an interview on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back that November.

When asked about Reese during his appearance on the show, Carter laughed and said, “That’s the homie for sure. We’re locked in ... y’all gonna find out when y’all need to find out,” adding, “That’s my girl though.” The next day, Reese seemingly approved of his announcement, tweeting, “Period homie.”

While the couple have mostly kept their relationship out of the spotlight since then, they remain supportive of each other’s basketball careers. In December 2025, Reese donned a custom Magic jersey printed with the words “My Man,” which she shared on Instagram with the caption, “steady.” The following October, Carter cheered on Reese and the Dream in the WNBA finals.

“We’re both competitors,” he told Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson in April 2026. “Before games, after games, we tell each other what we should do night in and night out and not to pay too much attention to the outside noise. We call it the white noise.”

Carter is a center and forward for the Orlando Magic.

According to the NBA, he was raised in a basketball family. His father, Wendell Carter Sr., played professionally in the Dominican Republic, while his mother, Lydia Carter, competed at the University of Mississippi.

As a senior in high school at Pace Academy in Atlanta, Carter was the school’s top scholar-athlete and won the Lance and Shield Award. He went on to play one season at Duke University. During his freshman year, he was named ACC Rookie of the Week three times and earned a spot on the ACC all-freshmen team and the all-ACC second team.

Carter also declared for the NBA Draft during his freshman season, as reported by ESPN in April 2018. He signed with the Chicago Bulls that July and was eventually traded to the Orlando Magic in March 2021.

After months of speculation, Carter called Reese “my girl” during a November 2025 appearance on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back, thus confirming their relationship. A day later, the former LSU star seemingly approved of his announcement with a tweet: “Period homie.”

The following month, Reese shared three photos of herself on Instagram posing at the Kia Center, where the Orlando Magic play. She wore a custom jersey printed with the words “My Man.”

Carter runs the A Platform² Foundation with his family

Outside of basketball, Carter is committed to philanthropy. He founded the A Platform² Foundation with his parents in March 2022.

The foundation supports youth and families by focusing on topics like STEM, financial literacy, African American history, social justice and equality, per their website. Its core purpose is to create an environment that encourages people to actively engage with and make a positive impact in their communities.

Carter has also been recognized for his dedication to community service on multiple occasions. He was honored with the Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award in 2023 and later named the winner of the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award in 2025, per his NBA bio.

He’s passionate about aviation

Carter didn’t always aspire to play professional basketball. When he was a kid, his parents both worked at an airport, and he dreamed of becoming a pilot.

In an August 2024 interview with the NBA, the athlete recalled being in a cockpit for the first time when he was 8 or 9 years old and learning about different flight instruments.

“I remember the pilot was standing right there and started talking to me, just randomly,” Carter said. “I was like oh, [wow] … I remember that very vividly.”

Carter was ultimately unable to pursue aviation because of height requirements for pilots, but he remains passionate about the field — so much so that he started an aviation curriculum at two Orlando, Fla., high schools to introduce students to aviation-related opportunities.

“Where I’ve come from, what I’m used to, what I have seen in my life — I feel like I’m able to relate to a lot of these kids in a certain way,” he said. “I want to be able to help any and every kid that I can, (that) I cross paths with.”
