2026 U-17 WWC: Mexico proud of players despite defeat to Flamingos
Miguel Gamero

Mexico U-17 women’s head coach Miguel Gamero has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance despite their 2-1 defeat to Nigeria’s Flamingos at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The North Americans were eliminated from the tournament following the loss to Akeem Busari’s side.

Oluebube Umejiaku and Mary Dunstan scored for the Flamingos, while Emily Delgado netted a consolation goal for Mexico deep into stoppage time.

Despite the defeat, Gamero praised his players for their commitment, determination and fighting spirit throughout the encounter.

“I think we have to highlight the team’s commitment and the fact that the players kept fighting until the very end,” he told FIFA.

“The most important thing is to learn and grow, helping them develop step by step as Mexican footballers so they can eventually progress to the senior national team.”
