FUFA will increase the prize money for the top-tier league, the Uganda Premier League, starting in the next financial year.
The development was announced by FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo during the 102nd FUFA Ordinary General Assembly.
Magogo, while addressing the delegates, revealed that due to increased funding to FUFA from avenues such as Government, CAF and FIFA, it was paramount that certain areas of the game are improved, including prize money.
“We have received good news recently from our sources of income, including government, CAF and FIFA. And in the budget for the next financial year, several areas of the game will see a substantial increase in the amount of money spent,” he said.
The FUFA President confirmed that FUFA in the last financial year paid 735 million Ugandan shillings in cash prizes, but this will increase to 1.54 billion shillings in the next year.
He also revealed that the Prize Money for the Uganda Premier League will move from 128 million shillings to 600 million shillings.
The Champions of the Uganda Premier League will now earn a cash prize of 200M shillings from the 60 million shillings that was previously allocated.
The 1st runners-up will also see an increase in the prize money earned to 100M shillings.
The other areas that will see improvement in terms of benefit from the FUFA budget include the FUFA Big League clubs getting medical insurance cover, an increase in the facilitation and salaries for referees, delegates and FUFA staff, among others.
