Coach Roberto De Zerbi has singled out Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel for praise after Tottenham’s impressive 2-0 victory over Chelsea, insisting the two wingers made the difference at Stamford Bridge.
Spurs ended a long wait for a league win away to Chelsea with a controlled performance in west London last Saturday evening.
After Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders turned a Mateus Fernandes corner into his own net, Tel sealed the points with a superb solo goal late on.
“I think we won the game with two wingers, Kudus and Mathys, they made the difference,” De Zerbi said.
Kudus provided an outlet on the right, carrying the ball forward and helping Tottenham stretch Chelsea’s defence.
On the opposite flank, Tel offered direct running and energy before producing the moment of quality that put the result beyond doubt.
The French forward collected the ball inside his own half, drove towards the Chelsea penalty area and worked space to shoot, sending a low effort into the corner.
It was a memorable way to cap a performance that De Zerbi described as very good.
Tel has faced scrutiny over his consistency since joining Spurs, and De Zerbi has previously spoken about the need for the 21-year-old to make better decisions.
The manager has also made clear that the youngster has significant talent, and this display offered a reminder of the threat he can pose when he attacks defenders with confidence.
