Michael Carrick’s position at Manchester United is under increasing scrutiny, with the club being linked with several potential replacements, including former Napoli boss Antonio Conte.
Conte has been without a club since leaving Napoli in the summer. However, Manchester United are understood to have reservations about pursuing the Italian, according to MufcMPB, which cited The Times journalist Paul Hirst.
One concern is Conte’s temperament. The club reportedly believes his character could prove too explosive for the role.
Manchester United are also worried about the financial demands involved. Conte could seek annual pay of more than £10m, a figure considered unacceptable by the club.
Conte has previous experience of managing in England. He led Chelsea from 2016 to 2018 before taking charge of Tottenham from 2021 to 2023.
