Liverpool eye “world class” Bundesliga star as Manchester United rival Reds for transfer

Liverpool could face competition from Manchester United in the race to strengthen their midfield, with the Reds reportedly considering a Bundesliga star as they assess their options ahead of the January transfer window.

Andoni Iraola’s side are continuing to explore potential additions in the middle of the park, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott understood to be a target.

However, the significant cost of securing the England international could force Liverpool to consider alternatives.

According to TEAMtalk, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha has emerged as another option for the Reds, although Manchester United are also interested in securing his signature.

Liverpool Consider Nmecha as Alex Scott Alternative

Nmecha — described as “world class”. by Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann — has established himself as an important player at Borussia Dortmund, with his performances attracting attention from several Premier League clubs.

The 26-year-old offers energy, physicality and versatility in midfield, making him an intriguing option for Liverpool as they assess how best to strengthen their squad.

Liverpool’s interest is reportedly linked to their pursuit of Scott, with Nmecha viewed as a potential alternative if a move for the Bournemouth midfielder proves difficult to complete.

Scott’s Premier League experience makes him an attractive target, but the financial demands involved could complicate negotiations. Liverpool may therefore need to explore other candidates rather than committing to one deal.

Nmecha has previous experience of English football, having spent more than a decade in Manchester City’s academy before continuing his senior career in Germany with Wolfsburg and Dortmund.

His familiarity with the English game could help him adapt to the Premier League, should Liverpool decide to pursue a transfer.

Dortmund Set to Make Liverpool Pay

Any potential deal would be complicated by Dortmund’s strong negotiating position.

Nmecha recently extended his contract until 2030, leaving the German club under little pressure to sell one of their established midfielders.

According to the reports, Manchester United have already made contact as they consider their midfield options ahead of the winter window, meaning Liverpool could face a battle for the player.

A January move is considered unlikely, with Dortmund keen to retain the midfielder for the remainder of the season.

The situation could change next summer, when an €80 million release clause is reportedly set to become active. Until then, Dortmund are understood to value Nmecha even higher, with figures between €90 million and €100 million being discussed.

Liverpool Must Decide on Their Midfield Priorities

For Liverpool, Nmecha represents an alternative worth considering if their pursuit of Scott becomes too expensive or proves unsuccessful.

However, the reported valuation means the Reds would still need to make a significant financial commitment to secure his services.

With Manchester United also monitoring the situation, Liverpool may have to move decisively if they decide Nmecha is the right addition to their midfield.

For now, the German international is expected to remain at Dortmund, but the coming months could determine whether Liverpool turn their interest into a serious transfer pursuit.
