Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak put Liverpool into an early lead against Brighton in a high-quality Premier League meeting at Anfield.

German playmaker Wirtz saw his powerful shot deflect in off the influential figure of Pascal Gross to put Andoni Iraolo’s side ahead.

Cody Gakpo was then denied by a brilliant save from Bart Verbruggen as free-scoring Brighton struggled in the early stages.

And Isak doubled the lead after a great run and cross from Bradley Barcola.

The Seagulls were disjointed by an early injury to Ferdi Kadioglu who had to come off after only six minutes.
