Some at Tottenham feel one young player can follow in Harry Kane’s footsteps by coming through the club’s academy to become one of the best players in the World.

Kane’s Ballon d’Or win is a proud moment for English football, and Spurs fans in particular, with the former Tottenham man becoming the first English player to be crowned best in the world in a quarter of a century.

It is also evidence that the Spurs academy is capable of producing the best in the world, with the striker having been at the North London club since the age of 11.

Kane’s rise would undoubtedly serve as an example of many of the young players coming through at Hotspur Way, and serve as a lesson that hard work, discipline and humility can take players to the very top.

Luca Williams-Barnett is viewed as the brightest Tottenham prospect since Harry Kane

The Sun have now spoken to scouts across the English game to ascertain which three teenagers have the talent and mentality to follow in the Tottenham legend’s footsteps.

One of the three they have narrowed in on is Spurs’ own Luca Williams-Barnett, who has been dominating youth football for the past couple of years.

The report says that the 18-year-old attacking midfielder is regarded as one of the most gifted players to emerge from the Spurs academy, with some at Hotspur Way believing he is the brightest prospect since Kane.

Those who have followed Williams-Barnett’s development closely believe he possesses the rare ability to spot passes and openings that others do not see.

While it is still early days in the teenager’s development, the feeling at Spurs is that they have potentially a generational talent on their hands.

Why Kane’s rise and the fall of others should serve as a cautionary tale for Williams-Barnett

Kane’s rise to becoming the best in the world was far from a straightforward, simple path. In fact, he was never considered the best player across any of his age group sides at Tottenham.

The striker was largely seen as not being good enough for Premier League football until the age of 21, before he exploded.

The likes of Alex Pritchard, Andros Townsend, Steven Caulker, and Tom Carroll were all seen as more promising prospects than Kane until around 21 years of age.

That should serve as a lesson on why talent alone is not enough to get to the top level, and Williams-Barnett has to work hard in order to fulfil his potential and avoid fading into obscurity as many wonderkids have.
