Black Queens drop five places in Fifa global ranking, drop to fifth in Africa
Black Queens

The Black Queens have fallen in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, dropping five places in the list revealed on Tuesday, October 20.

The latest ranking shows Ghana dropping to 65th place globally from their previous 60th position.

The ranking is based on the team’s performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament, which was staged in Morocco in July and August.

The Black Queens were knocked out of the competition in the quarterfinals by Malawi and failed to make the semifinals of the competition, missing out on an automatic slot to the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

Ghana also faced Mauritius as part of the qualification phase for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The result of the ranking shows a concern, having seen Ghana rise to 60th in the previous outcome.

On the continent, Ghana has also lost its third-place slot and dropped to the fifth on the ranking.

South Africa and Morocco have moved above the Black Queens, while Nigeria continues to stay at the top of the ranking.

The Black Queens are expected in action next month when they play in the preliminary phase of the playoff tournament for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
