But with eight minutes left Declan Rice drew Arsenal level. Rice burst forward, played off Viktor Gyokeres, got the ball back and smashed home the equaliser.
Bayern thought they had extended their incredible 39-game unbeaten home run in the Champions League group/league phase dating back to 2013, but Rice denied them.
The draw means Arsenal are in seventh place on seven points while Bayern are 14th on five points in the standings.
