Sikandar Raza savoured his first One-Day International victory in ten matches as Zimbabwe captain as his side beat Bangladesh by 99 runs in the UAE ODI Tri-Series at the Sheikh Zayed Oval.
Zimbabwe chose to bat but were soon in trouble at 24-3, with Taskin Ahmed removing Brian Bennett, Ben Curran and debutantTafadzwa Tsiga inside seven overs.
Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine rescued the innings with a stand of 150. Taylor made 81 before falling at 174-4, a knock that made him Zimbabwe’s highest ODI run-scorer of all time. Ervine fell seven short of a century, but his 93 made him the oldest player to score an ODI fifty.
Zimbabwe lost four wickets for 60 runs, yet Newman Nyamhuri and Wellington Masakadza, both unbeaten on 21, lifted the total to 271-8.
Bangladesh made a brisk start through Tanzid Hasan, who hit 46 from 38 balls, but his dismissal began a slide from 66-2 to 129-8. Bradley Evans was the chief destroyer, taking 4-45, while Masakadza returned 2-18 from six tight overs and Raza claimed 2-28 with his own bowling.
Blessing Muzarabani conceded only 23 runs in eight overs and removed Soumya Sarkar. Taskin’s unbeaten 16 could not save Bangladesh, who were bowled out in 33.4 overs.
