Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has been active on social media, as he remains a big doubt for the Champions League clash against AEK Athens.
Man City welcome the Greek side to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night bidding to bounce back from last week’s 4-2 defeat at home to reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Haaland scored both of City’s goals against PSG, but - along with Nico O’Reilly, Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes - has emerged as a major doubt for matchday three of this season’s league phase.
The Norway international sustained a knock during Man City’s 3-2 win over Ipswich in the Premier League at the weekend and was then not spotted in training on Monday ahead of the AEK fixture.
As supporters anxiously wait further updates on Haaland, the 26-year-old took to social media around five hours before the Man City lineup will be announced and uploaded a rather cryptic post.
As it’s not clear if Haaland has posted this image from home or from the Etihad Stadium, it’s safe to say his status for the AEK game remains up in the air.
City head coach Enzo Maresca has previously hinted at resting Haaland due to the amount of games the striker has played already this season and did not sound too worried when speaking in the pre-match press conference.
“He can be available,” Maresca said. “We’ll see. We have a session now and we have some doubts after Sunday’s game.
“He was quite good yesterday. Better. So we’ll see today.
“Replacing Erling is always difficult. We have some different options and we’ll see tomorrow.
“It depends a little bit on the gameplan and also there is a chance he can be available tomorrow.”
