“It’s important now that we fix a few things” - Spence

Drew Spence is eager to right the wrongs from the last few weeks in the Women’s Super League in Saturday’s north London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After an unbeaten start to the 2026/27 campaign, picking up 10 points in the opening four games in September, we head into this weekend’s derby on the back of two disappointing defeats in the competition.

However, despite the end result at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, for around 60 minutes there were plenty of positives for us to take as we went toe-to-toe with the Blues but three goals in an eight-minute spell completely turned the game in the host’s favour.

Speaking to us for the matchday programme on Saturday, Drew acknowledged that performances in the last two fixtures simply ‘haven’t been good enough’ but insisted the team won’t shy away from the exciting brand of football that brought success earlier in the campaign.

“Obviously, it's disappointing,” Drew told us, as we sat down with her earlier this week to reflect on the last two matches. “We've tried to play a style and I feel like we've come unstuck in both games. We were not at our best performance against London City and we can’t concede that many goals that early on, so the first half was nowhere near our standards.

“We had the international break to really reflect on that and I thought we were strong for 60 minutes against Chelsea, we competed a lot, we created chances, but it’s not been good enough from us and we know that we all need to be better.

“The games unfortunately don't last an hour long, so I think that's where we need to grow as a team. When you play against the top teams, you get punished, especially against a team like Chelsea.

“But we still want to play the way we want to and we're not going to shy away from that, so it's really important now that we fix a few things and we really focus on the minor details that can hopefully make us have a better result this weekend.”
