His close competition there had injuries. Jackie can’t use that excuse; he’s had a couple but he performs the same whether he is healthy or recovering.
It’s actually a surprise that his WAR is even positive. With the bad D and poor baserunning, the eye test supports AAAA replacement level at best. Of course, his optics are not enhanced by the extremely clever look of having his quite low OBP leading off.
Well, let’s just say that he is Exhibit A for why Mike was forced to bring in someone for the development job. Someone he hasn’t worked with and not one of his ‘buds’. I can’t support why I feel it wasn’t ME’s idea, but it smells that way after he fired / demoted 2 of his top guys.
So what should New Development GM do with Exhibit A? Well, he’s 22 and has great potential but is not ready for MLB. Where do other teams put their high potential, not-ready-yet 22 year olds? Um, AAA, that’s where.
It would be a good idea for Elias to give up all input into development, based on his track record. But alas, new guy is not likely to have much of a free hand.
And it sounds like a very Warehouse thing to do - hire someone with a GM title and give him less responsibility than that of some other teams’ AGMs.
So welcome and good luck, new guy. The best thing I can say is that you can’t muck it up any worse. Sorry to say this, but I pretty much hope you get fired along with the rest of your boss’ team a year from now.
The worst thing I can say about your potential is that you were willing to take this job.
