City Light Colt Brings Solid Arqana October Yearling Sale To A Close At €77,000
The October Yearling Sale at Arqana came to a close on Friday | Zuzanna Lupa

The fourth and final session of the Arqana October Yearling Sale closed on Friday with 131 of the 160 yearlings offered finding new homes, for a clearance rate of 81.25%. Turnover amounted to €1,785,500, at an average of €13,735 and a median of €10,000.

The day's top lot was the already-named City Light colt American Light, who made €77,000 to Ruben Seror and Sébastien Desmontils of Chauvigny Global Equine. Consigned by Haras de Clairefontaine on behalf of the Artu family, the colt holds appeal for both codes, with his dam, My Lover (Authorized), the producer of four-time winner My Habitude (Galiway). The second dam, Prudence Royale (Loup Solitaire), produced Amour à Papa (Montmartre), runner-up in the G1 Prix de Diane.

“We loved the colt. Honestly, we thought he was quite exceptional,” Ruben Seror told Jour de Galop. The final make-up of the partnership has still to be finalised, with American Light a possible recruit to the stable of Mickaël Seror, although whether his future lies on the Flat or over jumps remains to be decided.

Rabbah Bloodstock spent €1.83 million on 15 horses, ending the sale as the leading buyer, but one of the most fascinating subplots to the sale was Neil Helliwell's splurge on 31 yearlings to the tune of €1.728 million. Godolphin spent €750,000 on three horses, headed by the overall top lot, a Blue Point colt from Monceaux that sold on Monday.

Of the 629 horses offered throughout the week, 510 were sold at a clearance rate of 81%, which was up by 3% on last year. The slimmed-down catalogue [135 less horses offered] saw only a small [€1.36 million] reduction in the aggregate, which settled at €24 million. The average and median were healthy at €47,059 and €30,000 respectively.
