The Global African Diaspora Awards (GADA) has signed a two-year broadcasting agreement with the Continental American Football League of Africa (CAFL), with television coverage of its awards ceremony in Nigeria expected to begin in 2027.

The agreement was signed on 20 November 2025, according to a statement by GADA founder and Chief Executive Officer, Obi-West Utchaychukwu, popularly known as the Obi of Houston.

The statement said the partnership was not announced at the time because CAFL was preparing to formally launch its programme in Nigeria.

The announcement follows the league’s recent press conference in Makurdi, Benue State, where it outlined plans to introduce and develop American football in the country.

Under the agreement, CAFL is expected to provide a broadcasting platform for the GADA Awards ceremony and contribute financially towards organising the event.

However, the organisations have yet to disclose the television stations involved, distribution arrangements, broadcast schedule or the number of African countries expected to receive coverage.

The agreement comes as CAFL begins efforts to establish American football in Nigeria, with Benue State selected as the pilot location for its proposed development programme.

CAFL Commissioner, Muhammed El-Muhammed, said the initiative would focus on identifying young talent, encouraging grassroots participation and creating opportunities, including potential employment pathways linked to the sport.

Details of the programme, including its funding, training facilities, recruitment procedures and implementation timeline, have yet to be made public.

American football has a limited organised presence in Nigeria compared with established sports such as football and basketball. The proposed initiative will require sustained investment in training, grassroots participation and local structures to support its development.

GADA is an awards platform that recognises individuals and organisations in fields including business, healthcare, law, entertainment, technology, fashion, entrepreneurship and community development.

Its next awards ceremony is scheduled for 7 November 2026 in Houston, United States, while the proposed television coverage in Nigeria is expected to commence the following year.

The extent of the coverage and the arrangements for broadcasting the ceremony remain unclear.
