Luc Nilis has stepped away from his role as first-team striker coach at Patro Eisden Maasmechelen to join the club’s sporting cell under sports director Stijn Stijnen, Nieuwsblad reported. The former Belgium international, who joined the Limburg club in the summer of 2023, will now take on a broader administrative and technical mandate overseeing the entire sporting operation of the Challenger Pro League side. The Challenger Pro League-club kwam vandaag met groot nieuws naar buiten.

Promotion from the Training Pitch to the Front Office

The 58-year-old former Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven forward leaves his day-to-day duties on the A-squad training pitch behind. Stijnen confirmed the structural change within the club, stating that Nilis has earned a promotion to the inner circle of the sporting department.

Extensive Coaching Pedigree Across Europe and the Middle East

Before his appointment to Patro Eisden’s executive department, Nilis built a vast resume as an attacking specialist across multiple continents. Voetbalkrant.com outlined his prior stops, which include youth coaching roles at Racing Genk and Sporting Hasselt, as well as senior striker coaching positions at PSV, VVV-Venlo, Turkish club Ankaragücü, and the Jordaanse nationale ploeg. During his playing career, Nilis earned 56 caps for the Belgian national team and established a reputation as one of the most technically gifted left-footed attackers of his era.

Patro Eisden Prepares for FC Luik Amid League Struggles

The organizational reshuffle arrives as Patro Eisden struggles through a difficult opening stretch in the domestic second tier. The club has accumulated six points from their first seven matches of the campaign, though a recent 1-0 victory over Jong Genk provided some breathing room in the standings. Head coach Emilio Ferrera prepares his squad for a crucial away fixture against FC Luik on Sunday at 19.15 local time (18.15 UTC) in an encounter near the bottom of the league table, while Nilis begins his new responsibilities shaping the club’s broader sporting future.
