Roberto De Zerbi has revealed what he is doing to ensure Tottenham find the back of the net with more regularity in the Premier League.

Spurs have only found the back of the net three times in their six Premier League matches so far this season, by far the lowest tally in the division.

By comparison, the league’s top scorers, Brighton, already have 23 goals while even Tottenham’s next opponents, Coventry City, have scored 11 times this season despite sitting just a point off the relegation zone.

De Zerbi has been criticised for leaving Richarlison out of the club’s Premier League squad by some pundits, in light of his side’s struggles to find the back of the net.

Roberto De Zerbi says he is working to help Tottenham create even more chances

Tottenham’s lack of goals is not down to a lack of chances, but rather due to some poor finishing, with most of their forward players yet to get off the mark this season.

De Zerbi was asked whether, as a manager, he feels he has done his job when he coaches his side to create chances, and how much he can actually help improve their finishing.

The Tottenham boss insisted that if Spurs need more chances to find the back of the net, then it is his job to help them create a lot more.

The Italian told Football.London: “I think if we didn’t score, or if we scored just one goal, creating eight or nine chances, my work is to improve the team to create 20 chances to score. And if they are not enough, 25 to 30. I think we have not other ways. I have big confidence in the players.

“I think if we follow in playing in this way, if we follow to attack, if we follow to defend in this way, and if we follow to creating so many chances to score, we will score many goals and we will win many games. But it’s my opinion.”

De Zerbi has done all he can to pump up Dominic Solanke’s confidence

The Tottenham boss gave Dominic Solanke the armband against Man Utd, which sent out a clear message to the striker about his importance to the side at a time when he was coming under a lot of criticism.

After the 1-1 draw at United, where the 29-year-old opened his account, De Zerbi described Solanke as a ‘complete player’ and suggested that the Englishman is the perfect striker for his system.

It is thus clear that the Tottenham boss is doing all he can to pump up the tyres of the former Bournemouth man, as the Lilywhites desperately need him to deliver.
