Former Spurs midfielder Sandro has praised Tottenham fans for their loyalty and unwavering support, revealing that he still feels a strong connection with them.

Sandro spent the best part of four years in north London with Tottenham Hotspur after signing from Brazilian club Sport Club Internacional.

The midfielder joined for £8 million in early 2010, though part of the agreement allowed him to remain in Brazil to finish his campaign with Internacional. He captained the side and helped them win the prestigious Copa Libertadores before officially arriving in north London in August 2010.

During his time at Spurs, Sandro became a fan favourite, earning the nickname “The Beast” thanks to his ferocious, high-intensity playing style and imposing physical presence on the pitch.

The Brazilian also enjoyed standout moments in a Tottenham shirt, including playing a key role in Spurs’ historic run to the Champions League quarter-finals in his debut 2010–11 season.

At just 21 years old, and making his Champions League debut at San Siro against AC Milan, Sandro produced a masterclass.

He completely dominated a legendary Milan midfield featuring icons such as Gennaro Gattuso, Clarence Seedorf, and Robinho.

The former Spurs man single‑handedly broke up wave after wave of Milan attacks, and helped secure a famous 1‑1 aggregate victory (with a 1‑0 win away) that sent Spurs through to the quarter‑finals.

However, his progress was hampered by a serious knee injury during the 2012–13 campaign.

Former Tottenham midfielder Sandro opens up on connection with Spurs fans

In 2014, Sandro’s time at Spurs came to an end when he joined Queens Park Rangers. Despite his departure, the Brazilian continues to look back fondly on his spell at N17.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sandro reflected on his relationship with the club and its supporters, revealing how much he valued the backing of the Lilywhite faithful, even during difficult moments.

He said: “I feel so happy when I hear that because it means a lot for me and they know that I love Spurs as well.

“And when I first came they helped me to understand how to play in the Premier League and even in the bad moments they were with me, so I really love it. It’s a special connection and all the time when I come here in the UK and I can see them in the street, I feel very proud to play for Tottenham as well.”

Spurs must make home support count this season

Tottenham supporters have not changed, remaining enthusiastic and loyal even during tough times.

Last season, when Spurs endured their worst-ever league campaign and finished 17th, the Lilywhite faithful still turned out in their thousands on the final day, witnessing a 1-0 victory over Everton that secured survival.

This season, Spurs will once again need their home support if they are to push for European qualification.

Although they currently sit 16th, the gap to sixth place is just four points – a position that could secure Europa League football depending on other factors.

Improving home form will be crucial. Spurs have won only one of their four matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium so far, and last season managed just three wins from 19 home fixtures. Roberto De Zerbi and his players must make the most of the backing they receive at N17 if they are to climb the table.
