Sehwag powers India to thumping win in U19 Asia Cup opener

Aaryavir Sehwag struck an unbeaten 70 off 52 balls as India Under-19 began their 2026 Asia Cup campaign with a 10-wicket win over Nepal in Al Amerat on Friday (November 6).

Chasing 129, India reached the target in just 19.1 overs without losing a wicket. Sehwag struck seven fours and four sixes, while captain Lakshya Raichandani hit 53* off 63, with seven fours. Sehwag, playing his fourth Youth ODI, brought up his maiden fifty in 34 balls with a six right down the ground.

Earlier, India's bowlers had restricted Nepal to 128 in 42.3 overs, with Ishan Sood and Arjun Rajput picking up three wickets apiece. Sood caused the damage up top, taking the first three wickets that left Nepal reeling at 27-3 within nine overs. Darsh Sonar top-scored for Nepal with 43 off 93 balls, while Aashish Luhar contributed 29.

Sehwag continues blistering run

Sehwag's innings comes on the back of a prolific run in age-group cricket. Earlier last month, he smashed 173 off 143 balls for Delhi’s under-19 team against Chandigarh in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, hitting 19 fours and eight sixes. He scored 124 of his runs in boundaries alone.

The 18-year-old had also made headlines back in the 2024 Cooch Behar Trophy, scoring 297 against Meghalaya.

Aaryavir, the son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, made his India Under-19 debut in the one-day series against Australia in September, making 109 runs in three innings with a strike rate of 103.80.

India will next face Pakistan in the tournament on Sunday, November 8.
