Stuttgart left-back Maximilian Mittelstädt has described Victor Osimhen as one of the best strikers in world football ahead of their Champions League meeting with Galatasaray.
The Germany international warned that the Nigerian forward poses a major threat, highlighting his consistency and performances over recent seasons.
Osimhen has scored 10 goals in 10 appearances across all competitions this season, including a strike against former club Lille in the Champions League.
The 27-year-old is expected to lead Galatasaray’s attack against Stuttgart despite receiving treatment during the Turkish side’s most recent Süper Lig fixture.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Mittelstädt acknowledged Galatasaray’s quality in both defence and attack, singling out Osimhen as a player Stuttgart must be prepared to contain.
“We prepared for Galatasaray. We know that are very good defensively but also have exceptional players in attack, like, Osimhen, who is very dangerous,” he said.
“He has shown over the last few years that he is perhaps one of the best strikers in the world.”
The Stuttgart defender also noted that Galatasaray have several other established international players, meaning his side cannot focus solely on the Nigerian forward.
“Galatasaray have not only him in attack but have brought in many good players including international stars, and we also have good players in defence.
“We know that it will demand everything from us but I know we will go into the game well prepared,” Mittelstädt added.
The Stuttgart encounter presents another opportunity for Osimhen to strengthen his place in Galatasaray’s European history.
The striker has scored eight Champions League goals for the Turkish club and is closing in on Burak Yılmaz’s tally of 10, which puts him within reach of becoming the club’s joint second-highest scorer in the competition.
