Bendel Insurance technical adviser Kennedy Boboye said his side successfully carried out its game plan in Sunday’s 2-1 comeback victory over Kwara United in Ilorin.
The Benin-based team, known as the Benin Arsenals, recovered after falling behind against the Harmony Boys. Kayode Oke and Chinedu Nwosu scored for Bendel Insurance, while Stephen Gideon found the net for Kwara United.
Boboye praised his players’ response after conceding first, saying their persistence and tactical discipline enabled them to take all three points.
“We came here with a formation and a plan to implement, and it worked, although we lost concentration for the first goal we allowed,” Boboye said. “We continued pressing because we wanted the three points, and that eventually paid off.
“We pushed hard to get the equaliser, while the second goal came through another counterattack that caused them to lose focus in defence and gave us the winning goal.”
The result lifted Bendel Insurance to third place in the league standings. The club has collected 18 points from 10 matches.
Bendel Insurance will next face Rangers in a rescheduled match in Awka on Wednesday.
