2026 Youth Olympic Games: Nigeria’s Bawa, Lawrence bounce back to beat Egypt in beach volleyball

Nigeria’s Pamela Bawa and Joy Lawrence bounced back from their opening-game defeat to Japan with a commanding 2-0 victory over Egypt’s Marwa Mamdouh Salem Saleh and Karma Badawy in the beach volleyball of the Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal.

The Nigerian duo won both sets 21-19, 21-11 to secure the straight-set victory and get their campaign back on track.

Bawa and Lawrence had earlier suffered a 2-1 defeat to Japan in their opening match, making the victory over the Egyptian pair an important response as they seek to strengthen their position in the competition.

The Nigerians demonstrated improved performance to overcome their Egyptian opponents, winning the first set by a narrow two-point margin before dominating the second set by 10 points.

The 2-0 victory marks a positive step for the Nigerian pair as they look to build momentum in their remaining matches.
