Pirates and Durban City into draw on Wednesday
Pirates and Durban City into draw on Wednesday

Orlando Pirates will discover the identity of their group opponents in the African Champions League when the draw for the next phase is conducted in Cairo on Wednesday.

It will be held at the Egypt Football Association headquarters at 2pm SAST (1200 GMT) and be preceded by the draw for the group stage of the African Confederation Cup, where Durban City are competing, at 1pm SAST (1100 GMT).

The club are debutants in continental club competition this season and booked their place on Sunday with a 3-0 away triumph over AS Port Louis 2000 in the second leg of their second-round tie, for a 6-1 aggregate scoreline.

Pirates advanced on Friday at the expense of Namibia’s Young Africans while holders Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a shock reversal and were eliminated by Wiliete of Angola.

The seedings for the two draws are usually announced by the Confederation of African Football one day before the draw.

Pirates are through to group phase for a sixth time, having twice been runners-up since the Champions League format was introduced in 1997.

When it was a knockout competition, Pirates were winners in 1995.
