Liverpool FC safeguarding activities shared as national case study by the FA
Play Safe Weekend campaign - 14/10/20256

The work of the club and official charity LFC Foundation around Play Safe Weekend in October has been highlighted as an example of safeguarding good practice.

A series of activities at the Reds’ emerging talent centres and academies for both male and female teams was led by LFC’s dedicated safeguarding and player care staff.

These practical workshops provided young players with the opportunity to give open and honest feedback in a safe space, while emphasising that their views will always be listened to.

The feedback received was then used to effect real change, including a new safeguarding guide with an adapted tone of voice more suited to children.

Highlighting the positive impact of LFC’s innovative activities, the FA is now sharing the work as a case study for clubs around the country to learn from.

“Ensuring that children and young people feel listened to is a key part of Premier League safeguarding standards and of our safeguarding culture at Liverpool FC,” said Nicola Fryer, the club’s director of safeguarding.

“When young people see that their opinions matter in the day-to-day aspects of their experience, they are much more likely to speak openly with trusted adults if they encounter a concern or need support.

“That confidence and trust can make a real difference.

“While Play Safe provides an important opportunity to highlight the voice of the child, this is something we are committed to embedding throughout the entire season, not just during Play Safe Weekend.”
