Rick Stockstill was named FSU's interim head coach on Sunday, becoming just the second interim head coach in program history. It is actually the third time the Seminoles have needed an interim head coach, with Odell Haggins doing so in 2017 and 2019.
Stockstill will look to replicate Haggins' success in the role, but he wil have big shoes to fill. Haggins went 2-0 in 2017 after he took over when Jimbo Fisher resigned so he could take over the Texas A&M Aggies. He followed that up by going 3-1 in 2019 after Willie Taggart was fired, with their only loss coming to the No. 8 Florida Gators.
The Seminoles won his first game each year, crushing the ULM Warhawks 42-10 in 2017 and getting FSU bowl-eligible. Their first game in 2019 was actually against the Boston College Eagles, with FSU pulling out a 38-31 road win thanks to some heroics from Jordan Travis.
While James Blackmon led the passing attack, Travis showed what he could do with his legs. He led the Seminoles with 94 yards and two touchdowns on just three carries. Blackmon also had plenty of success, completing 18 of his 26 passes for 346 yards and two touchdowns.
Stockstill will need to have similar success for FSU to make a bowl game, something they have not done since 2023. They will need to go 3-1 to make a bowl game and can not afford to lose on Saturday against a struggling Boston College team.
