Murphy Ben International Sport (MBI Sport), the broadcast partner of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), says Rivers United barred its camera crew from accessing the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium to livestream the club’s home match against Enugu Rangers on Sunday.
MBI Sport claimed its staff members were denied entry into the stadium for the planned production despite its “readiness and commitment to bringing the excitement of Nigerian football to fans across the country.”
It is the second time the broadcast partner has been denied access to live coverage of an NPFL match. The previous incident occurred one week ago at Abia Warriors. The Umuahia-based club was sanctioned with a N3.2 million fine and a lengthy match ban for one of its officials.
MBI Sport was unveiled as NPFL’s broadcast partner at the start of the season, and has been providing live coverage of selected matches on YouTube. The deal came a few days before the league penned a $7.5 million title sponsorship contract with EuroMatch Group.
Rivers United and Rangers drew 1-1, but NPFL remains silent on the latest incident in Port Harcourt.
