Victor Osimhen has warned Galatasaray’s title rivals that there is more to come after his two goals gave the champions a 2-1 win over Fenerbahçe in the Istanbul derby on Monday.

The Nigerian striker scored in the 29th and 44th minutes at RAMS Park.

He first finished a pass from Barış Alper Yılmaz, then headed in a cross from Davinson Sánchez to give the hosts a two-goal lead at the break. İrfan Can Kahveci pulled one back with an overhead kick in the 62nd minute, but Galatasaray held on.

The result put Galatasaray top of the Super Lig on 22 points, six clear of their rivals. It also took Osimhen to nine goals and three assists in nine appearances in all competitions.

The 27-year-old thanked his teammates and the coaching staff after the game.

“This victory, I have to say a very big thank you to my teammates for their concentration, resilience, hard work and everybody, absolutely everybody,” he said.

“Inshallah, more to come from the boys and everyone.”

Osimhen said winning big games was part of the club’s title ambition, saying, “Winning derbies is important if you want to become champions. We want to lift every trophy, whatever the competition.”

He also replied to criticism of his form and body language in the build-up.

“There were discussions before the match this week. I love this club. I always say it,” he said.

“I will give everything for this club. I do not care about social media. I see the fans.”

The brace took Osimhen to five goals in six appearances against Fenerbahçe. He has not lost any of those games, winning four and drawing two. According to Opta, he is the second Galatasaray player to score against a Fenerbahçe side managed by İsmail Kartal in the league, after Wesley Sneijder in October 2014.

Osimhen also spoke about his link-up with new signing Aleksey Batrakov, who joined from Lokomotiv Moscow in August, calling him an exceptional, incredible player and an incredible person.

The match ended in confrontations after the final whistle, involving players including Fenerbahçe’s Archie Brown and Galatasaray’s Abdülkerim Bardakçı. Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk said the game had been clean until then and that penalties would follow.

“It was very chaotic, but unfortunately these tensions at the end of the match can manifest this tension even more,” he said.
