Taiwo Awoniyi and Tim Iroegbunam both opened their goal accounts for the English Premier League season with their respective clubs at the weekend
Awoniyi, who recently returned from suspension, scored at the end of the first half to help Coventry City secure a 3-1 victory over Sunderland.
The Nigeria international showed good determination to win possession from Sunderland defender Luke O’Nien before driving into the box and firing past goalkeeper Robin Roefs.
Awoniyi’s strike marked his first goal for the Sky Blues in the EPL this season and his second in eight appearances across all competitions since joining from Nottingham Forest in the summer.
Iroegbunam also opened his Premier League goal account for Hull City in their 2-2 draw against fellow newcomers Ipswich Town at the MKM Stadium.
The former Everton midfielder collected the ball just inside the Ipswich half on the right flank before driving into the penalty area unchallenged and firing past Christian Walton.
After a difficult start to the campaign due to fitness issues, Iroegbunam will be pleased to get off the mark and will hope to build on the goal as Hull City seek to retain their Premier League status.
