Rivers United's assistant coach Yemi Olanrewaju believes his team has what it takes to win the Nigeria Premier Football League title this season. The Pride of Rivers claimed top spot after holding Barau FC to a 0-0 draw in Matchday 9 action in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Finidi George's side remains the only unbeaten club in the NPFL this campaign. Olanrewaju told the club's media that Rivers United wants to go further than their second-place finish last season when Rangers claimed the crown.
"I think we are prepared, this is Rivers United. The pressure is on us to do well this season, more than we did last season," he said.
The assistant coach stressed that his side isn't focused on maintaining their unbeaten streak. "For us, we are not even looking at the unbeaten run, it doesn't really matter.
We just want to get as many points as possible," Olanrewaju noted.
He identified defensive solidity as central to the club's philosophy heading forward. "The key thing for us is not to concede.
If you don't concede, you can't lose a game. That's our philosophy," he added.
Rivers United will travel to Benin City on Sunday to face Bendel Insurance in a South South derby at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
