Mamelodi Sundowns drew in Angola, Durban City built a first-leg advantage and rain restricted the Proteas to 12.2 overs on a weekend that also brought late winners in the Betway Premiership.

Here are the main South African results from Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, with the next confirmed dates in the cricket and European football calendars.

CAF return legs still to decide ties

Sundowns drew 0–0 away to Wiliete in Lubango on Sunday in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, as reported by The Citizen. Their return leg is scheduled for Friday 23 October at Loftus Versfeld.

Durban City beat AS Port Louis 2000 3–1 in the CAF Confederation Cup. Haashim Domingo and Gaston Sirino scored before Tashreeq Morris converted a stoppage-time penalty. The return match in Mauritius is scheduled for 25 October; the first-leg win does not yet secure a group-stage place.

Late goals settle league contests

Siwelele earned their first league win with a 1–0 victory over Polokwane City on Sunday, thanks to Michel N’Guessan’s late goal.

Saturday’s programme produced two more late decisions. Bethuel Muzeu’s stoppage-time header gave Sekhukhune United a 2–1 win over Marumo Gallants, after Oageng Phiri’s opener had been cancelled out by an own goal.

Kruger United won 1–0 at Chippa United through Sibiya’s stoppage-time strike. Milford also won by a single goal, beating Golden Arrows 1–0 with Siphosethu Ndlabi on the scoresheet.

Bulls and Stormers win; Cheetahs fall short

The Bulls beat Stade Français 56–20 and the Stormers defeated Bristol Bears 49–12 in Saturday’s Investec Champions Cup matches. The Lions lost 31–14 to La Rochelle.

In Sunday’s Challenge Cup, Bayonne edged the Cheetahs 29–27. The Free State side had led 27–22 before Herschel Jantjies’ try and Rob du Preez’s conversion put the French club ahead.

Proteas resume on Monday

South Africa ended the rain-shortened opening day of the second Test against Australia on 20/2 in Gqeberha. Scott Boland took both wickets, dismissing Aiden Markram for 11 and David Bedingham without scoring.

Temba Bavuma was unbeaten on four and Marques Ackerman on five. Play is scheduled to resume at 09:45 SAST on Monday 19 October, weather permitting. Australia lead the series 1–0.

For European football followers, UEFA’s confirmed calendar places Champions League league-phase matchday three on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 October.
