Shaibu has expressed strong confidence in the ability of the Nigerian women’s national football team, the Flamingos, to secure a World Cup trophy. He has called on the players to maintain their current high level of performance and stay focused on the upcoming challenges required to achieve the ultimate prize.

The encouragement follows recent performances by the national team, which have shown a trend of improved tactical discipline and physical readiness. Shaibu emphasised that the pursuit of a global title requires more than just talent; it demands a sustained commitment to excellence and mental fortitude.

The directive comes as the squad continues its campaign to elevate Nigerian women’s football on the global stage. By urging the players to remain committed to the task ahead, Shaibu is signalling the need for consistency to ensure the team can compete with the world’s elite footballing nations.

The Flamingos have historically been a dominant force in African women’s football, frequently representing the continent at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. However, transitioning from continental success to winning a global championship requires navigating intense competition from established powerhouses in Europe and North America. Recent matches have shown a technical growth that has bolstered the confidence of both technical officials and supporters.

Success at the World Cup level carries significant implications for the sport in Nigeria. A successful run by the women’s team could attract increased corporate sponsorship and greater investment from the private sector. Such financial influx is essential for the professionalisation of the domestic women’s league and the continued development of youth programmes across the country.

The technical staff and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are now tasked with ensuring that the squad’s preparation meets the rigorous standards of international competition. This includes maintaining player fitness and providing the logistical support necessary for long-term tournament preparation. The team is expected to face a series of upcoming fixtures that will serve as critical benchmarks for their readiness to contend for the championship.
