Champions League: PSG, Liverpool secure thrilling wins

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 4-2, while Liverpool came from two goals down to beat Villarreal 4-3 in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League league-phase fixtures.

Nine matches were played on October 20, with 44 goals scored across the night’s encounters, as several European heavyweights recorded important victories

At the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain overcame Barcelona in a six-goal contest to maintain their perfect start to the league phase.

Désiré Doué gave the French champions the lead before Barcelona’s Xavi Espart restored parity after the break. Lucas Hernández put PSG ahead again, but Lamine Yamal equalised for the visitors.

PSG eventually took control in the closing stages, with Vitinha scoring the decisive third goal before Fabián Ruiz added a fourth to seal the 4-2 victory. The result gave PSG their third win from three matches, while Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the campaign.

At Anfield, Liverpool produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Villarreal 4-3 after conceding twice in the opening stages.

Georges Mikautadze and Sergi Cardona put the Spanish side 2-0 ahead, but Liverpool responded before half-time through Alexis Mac Allister and Ronald Araújo.

Mac Allister scored again after the interval, before Florian Wirtz extended Liverpool’s lead. Villarreal’s Tani Oluwaseyi pulled one back late in the game, but the hosts held on to secure their third consecutive victory in the competition.

Manchester City also enjoyed a convincing evening, defeating AEK Athens 5-1. Phil Foden scored a hat-trick, while Elliot Anderson and Rayan Cherki also found the net for the English side.

In Italy, Napoli edged Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt 4-3 in another high-scoring encounter, while AS Roma recorded one of the night’s biggest victories, beating Slovan Bratislava 4-0.
