Spanish Footballer Jesus De Miguel Dies After Collision With Goalkeeper During Match

The incident occurred in the closing minutes of the encounter at Tenerife’s Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, with both teams locked at 2-2.

Spanish football club CD Tenerife has announced the death of its striker, Jesus De Miguel Alameda, 30, following a horrific on-field collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a league match on Monday.

The incident occurred in the closing minutes of the encounter at Tenerife’s Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, with both teams locked at 2-2.

Owono reportedly rushed towards the centre circle to intercept and clear a long ball when his knee collided with De Miguel, sending the striker crashing to the ground unconscious.

The 30-year-old was immediately attended to before being evacuated by ambulance to the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.

Tenerife had earlier confirmed that De Miguel was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he was initially reported to be stable despite the severity of his injuries.

However, the club disclosed on Tuesday that his neurological condition had deteriorated before subsequently confirming his death at 8:00 a.m. on November 3, 2026.

In an emotional statement announcing his passing, Tenerife said the club was devastated by the loss of the forward.

"Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda," the club stated.

"There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome."

The club added that De Miguel’s family had expressed appreciation for the numerous messages of sympathy and support received since the incident, while appealing for privacy during the difficult period.

FC Andorra also expressed condolences to the deceased player's family, teammates and the Tenerife community.

"With broken hearts and devastated, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesus de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and to CD Tenerife," the club said.

Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, who co-owns FC Andorra, and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe were among prominent football figures who also expressed grief over the striker’s death.

Meanwhile, questions could emerge over the circumstances surrounding the collision, although any criminal responsibility would depend on the findings of an investigation into the incident.

Under Article 142 of Spain’s Penal Code, causing death through gross negligence can attract a prison sentence of between one and four years, while death resulting from less serious negligence carries a possible sentence of three to 18 months.

However, applying the provision would depend on whether investigators establish that the goalkeeper’s actions went beyond the risks ordinarily associated with competitive football and amounted to criminal negligence.

The information provided does not indicate that Owono has been charged with any offence in connection with the incident.
