Rajat Patidar has been withdrawn from the India A squad for the upcoming Rising Stars Asia Cup to be held in Doha, Qatar from November 19. The right-handed batter, who was named vice-captain in the Tilak Varma-led squad, has informed the BCCI to not consider him for 50-over selection as he “manages existing injuries”.
Patidar captained Madhya Pradesh in three matches in the first leg of the Ranji Trophy, scoring hundreds against Puducherry and Bihar. Prior to that, he was part of the India A squad that went down 2-1 to Australia A in the one-dayers in Puducherry, scoring two half-centuries in three games.
Delhi all-rounder Ayush Badoni has been named Patidar’s replacement for the tournament. Badoni has been in stellar form in domestic cricket, having piled up 559 runs in four Ranji Trophy games including two double-hundreds. Meanwhile, batter Rinku Singh has been appointed vice-captain following Patidar’s withdrawal.
India A are placed in Group B alongside Nepal, UAE and Pakistan A, and will commence their campaign against Nepal at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium on November 20.
