Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs star Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane has detailed his decision to join Mochudi Centre Chiefs, insisting the Botswana side’s big ambitions match his own coaching trajectory.

Letsholonyane, who coached Matebele FC in the Botswana Premier League last season, recently joined Mochudi Centre Chiefs from Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League outfit FC Platinum.

He spent almost two months at FC Platinum, where he served as Thabo Senong‘s assistant coach. However, when Mochudi Centre Chiefs, who are eager to revive themselves, tabled an offer, he could not resist and quickly accepted.

While it came as a shock that he opted to join Mochudi Centre Chiefs at a time when FC Platinum were starting to gather momentum, with his partnership with head coach Thabo Senong already helping the team rise from their slump, Letsholonyane told FARPost in an interview that the Mochudi Centre Chiefs job was irresistible.

He said the move was mainly influenced by the fact that the team’s ambitions match his own, and he needs to keep building his profile as a coach while also carving out a niche in Botswana, where he got his first Premier League job as head coach last season.

“What attracted me to Mochudi Centre Chiefs is that the team’s ambitions and mine are on the same page. It’s a club that wants to achieve a lot, and you can see they are putting in the work and putting structures in place to support that dream,” Letsholonyane told FARPost.

“For me personally, it is a big platform. It’s an opportunity to be part of the bigger picture of the football club, to contribute, and also to grow as an individual and in my coaching career.”

“At the moment, the immediate plan is very clear. We need to stabilise the team, bring back confidence and get back to winning ways, but importantly, while playing good football. We want the supporters to be proud of the way we play and the way we compete.”

So far, the former Kaizer Chiefs star has presided over two matches. They lost 3-0 to TAFIC FC on 3 October before registering a famous 2-1 win over Township Rollers on Saturday.
