Tottenham injury update: James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, Savio latest news and return dates
Chelsea 0-2 Tottenham: Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi press conferences

Tottenham are still battling a number of injury problems despite their change in fortunes over recent weeks.

Big-spending Spurs finally have some momentum under Roberto De Zerbi after a wretched and previously winless start to the campaign, lifting off the foot of the Premier League table and out of the relegation zone.

Tottenham saw off newly-promoted Coventry at home a fortnight ago to finally achieve lift-off for 2026/27, following that up with a memorable victory over fierce rivals Chelsea - only their second in the league at Stamford Bridge for 36 years.

Spurs will be fancied to continue that resurgence in another London derby against Crystal Palace, piling more pressure on under-fire Eagles boss Pierre Sage.

However, De Zerbi will be keen for his latest selection issues to abate fast with some very winnable games on the horizon ahead of a showdown with Arsenal in early December. Here is all the latest Tottenham injury news and return dates.

James Maddison

James Maddison continues to have no luck at all with injuries. Having returned from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) late last season, he picked up a shoulder fracture at the start of the current campaign.

Maddison was then forced off in the second half against Chelsea last weekend with an apparent groin problem, having sat on the pitch looking devastated as he received treatment and his team-mates offered their support.

Spurs fans will take comfort from the fact that Maddison was seen walking unaided away from Stamford Bridge after the game and was also on the pitch during Tottenham’s celebrations.

It has since been reported that his groin injury is not believed to be anything serious, in what will be a massive relief to De Zerbi, who said after the Chelsea match: “I think it is not a very important problem.

“We need to do the medical checks tomorrow, after tomorrow I don't know. I hope it is not a big problem because he is a special player for us. We need him.”

Potential return date: Unknown, potentially early November

Destiny Udogie

Destiny Udogie has missed both of Spurs’ Premier League wins so far this campaign, with De Zerbi stating that his fellow Italian’s absence is due to a “fitness issue”.

A knee injury picked up against Manchester United has left the former Udinese man unable to train, much to De Zerbi’s frustration.

Speaking ahead of the Chelsea game, De Zerbi said: “[Udogie] is not available. With the medical staff, we are trying to find the best way for him.

“But after Manchester United, I have not worked with him, and it is a problem.”

He also said: “Destiny still feels pain. Maybe next week he can be available.”

Potential return date: November

Tosin Adarabioyo

Tosin Adarabioyo looked impressive against Coventry in his first start since joining Tottenham - but in typical Spurs fashion, the defender’s full debut was interrupted by a suspected calf issue.

While De Zerbi implied that the injury was not too serious in the build-up to the Chelsea game, he missed out on the matchday squad entirely.

Potential return date: Saturday October 31, vs Crystal Palace (H)

Lucas Bergvall

Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall has been absent since Spurs’ plucky draw at Old Trafford. The knock he picked up against Manchester United is not believed to be serious, with a confirmed timeline given by De Zerbi.

It is hoped that Bergvall will be available for selection this weekend, after two weeks out injured.

Speaking earlier in October, De Zerbi stated: “Bergvall had a problem in Manchester early on in the first chance he created for [Dominic] Solanke.

“He felt pain in his knee but felt fine and on Sunday he came to the training ground and he'll be out for two weeks.”

Potential return date: Saturday October 31, vs Crystal Palace (H)

New signing: Savio joined Tottenham from Manchester City in the summer

Savio

There was a third casualty for Spurs during the 1-1 draw with Manchester United, with summer signing Savio still out injured.

The issue has been described as a muscle injury by De Zerbi, with the exact nature of it still unclear.

As such, there is no confirmed return date for the Brazilian, meaning it is uncertain whether he will be fit enough to feature before the next international break in November.

De Zerbi said after Tottenham’s Spain training camp earlier this month: “Unfortunately, Savio, on Tuesday before leaving for Marbella, felt a muscular problem and we have lost him for some weeks.”

Potential return date: Saturday November 21, vs Ipswich (H)

Mykhailo Mudryk

Spurs supporters are still waiting to get a proper glimpse of Chelsea loanee Mudryk, the Ukrainian making just one appearance since temporarily swapping west London for north London on Deadline Day.

De Zerbi described the ankle injury Mudryk picked up in training last month as “stupid”, but no further details have been provided beyond a rough timeframe of six to eight weeks given in mid-September.

That timeline could see Mudryk available for selection in early November. That being said, Spurs have been extra cautious this season, and are likely to remain so with a player who has not featured in back-to-back competitive games since November 2024.

Mudryk would have been ineligible to face his parent club at Stamford Bridge, even if fit.

Potential return date: Early November

Wilson Odobert

Wilson Odobert is a long-term absentee, with the winger recovering from an ACL tear sustained during Spurs’ defeat by Newcastle back in February.

Stepping up his rehabilitation at Hotspur Way since undergoing surgery, Odobert is said to be progressing well.

However, De Zerbi said of his comeback last week: “I don't know, because he has not started yet to work with us. I have no idea [when he will return].”

Potential return date: December

Long-term absentee: Xavi Simons ruptured his ACL back in April

Xavi Simons

Yet another Tottenham player to suffer a ruptured ACL, Xavi Simons has been absent since April.

The Dutch international was quick to go under the knife, missing the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign. Simons is now stepping up his recovery at Hotspur Way based on his social media posts.

The midfielder recently shared a video showing that he is now training with a ball at his feet. That being said, Simons’ return is not likely before the turn of the year.

Potential return date: Early 2027
