Perhaps the most anticipated bracket reveal in the history of Florida high school football has arrived.
The FHSAA will unveil the playoff field for each postseason tournament at 5 p.m. ET Friday, Nov. 6. The standard state championship bracket will see 32 teams apiece in Classes 1A through 6A, as usual. But this year marks the Sunshine State's first Open Division, which will put the top eight teams from all divisions into their own field to compete for their own title.
And there's controversy, as there always seems to be. Carol City, who at No. 7 in the MaxPreps rankings would qualify for the Open Division, lost an appeal on its postseason ban days before the final rankings were revealed. That means No. 9 Venice would slide into the elite eight-team field, while the rest of Class 2A will require some reshuffling, as well.
The Open Division will see the teams put into three weeks of pool play while the state championship tournaments play out the regional rounds. Then the two teams who finished best in each pool will meet in the Open Division semifinals, with the winners clashing in Miami along with the rest of the standard state championship games.
The Independent and FIT fields will be announced Nov. 6, as well. Follow the reveal live below.
