Carlos Alcaraz’s comeback win over Taylor Fritz has cost American a staggering amount of cash
Carlos Alcaraz’s comeback win over Taylor Fritz has cost American a staggering amount of cash

After losing to Carlos Alcaraz in an extraordinary comeback victory at the Paris Masters, the eye-watering cost to Taylor Fritz’s bank account has been revealed.

The American is now unable to qualify for the end-of-year ATP Finals, having required, at minimum, a semi-final run at the Paris Masters to make the eight-man shortlist in Turin.

Fritz has missed out on a guaranteed tennis payday of $338,000 ahead of the Finals, and potentially upwards of $5million in Turin.

The full cost of Carlos Alcaraz’s win to Taylor Fritz’s bank account revealed

By losing to Alcaraz and missing out on Finals participation, the American is set to lose an initial payday of $338,000 just to appear in Turin’s ‘round robin’ phase, per the Nitto ATP Finals website.

If Fritz had won a single match at the ATP Finals, he would have pocketed a further $405,000. As three matches are played in Turin’s group-stage phase, the American could have earned over $1.2million.

Financially, missing out on a Finals place gets even worse for Fritz, as winning his hypothetical semi-finals match-up would have banked the 29-year-old an additional $1.2million.

If he had progressed and won the Finals’ final, Fritz would have earned $5.17 million as Turin’s undefeated champion.

While it is unlikely that the American would have emerged victorious at the ATP’s end-of-year event, given how much Fritz struggled to even secure participation, the loss of $338,000 is certain.

In Turin, the combined total prize pot for both singles and doubles athletes is $15.75million. This figure is up 1.61% from 2025, when Jannik Sinner became the most affluent champion in Finals history.

Carlos Alcaraz’s words to Taylor Fritz at the net revealed and Instagram statement issued

The American held match points against Alcaraz, as he battled towards a seemingly straightforward two-sets-to-love win.

Instead, the Spaniard fought back from the brink, claiming the match’s second set and eventually winning the third in Paris.

As a result, Fritz, who needed to make, at least, the semi-finals of the Masters event, was denied participation in this season’s end-of-year ATP Finals.

Instead, Rafael Jodar, tipped to become the eventual challenger to Alcaraz and Sinner’s tennis duopoly, became the first man in history to qualify for the Finals in his debut season.

Taking to Instagram post-loss, Fritz, who Alcaraz repeatedly apologised to at the net in Paris, confessed the defeat “hurts more than I can express.”

“There was so much at stake and I came so close. I gave everything on court and I wanted this win more than anything.

“I don't really know what to make of it all yet, but what I do know is that I have to get back to work.

“There is still a lot of progress to be made, now that I'm fit enough to be able to work. Thank you to everyone who supported me,” concluded the American.

As Alcaraz repeated the words “I’m sorry, man, I’m so sorry” to Fritz at the Masters event net, his opponent confessed: “Nah, you were too good.

“Good luck,” continued the American. “It was a good match.” Alcaraz thanked his opponent and will now look to wear the Paris crown ahead of his guaranteed participation at the Finals in Turin.
