Bengals rank among NFL's best in telling offensive stat

The Cincinnati Bengals aren't giving opposing defenses many quick exits this season.

According to NFL Researcher on X, Cincinnati has the NFL's third-lowest three-and-out rate at 12.3%. Only the Buffalo Bills (7.9%) and Indianapolis Colts (10.1%) have been better at avoiding those stalled possessions.

The New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys are tied behind the Bengals at 14.3%, putting Cincinnati in strong company when it comes to keeping drives alive.

A three-and-out means an offense fails to pick up a first down before punting after three plays. Avoiding them creates more opportunities to score and can give a team's defense additional time on the sideline.

But that doesn't mean every extended possession ends in points. It does show how rarely opponents have been able to send Joe Burrow and Cincinnati's offense straight back to the bench.

The Bengals were booming with a loud example of their offensive potential in Sunday's 43-36 overtime win over the Tennessee Titans. Burrow threw for 462 yards and five touchdowns, then scored the winning touchdown on a 9-yard scramble.

Tee Higgins finished with 155 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Ja'Marr Chase added 141 yards and a score.

For an offense with that much firepower, simply extending a possession can make them all the more dangerous.
