Nigerian-Rooted Midfielder Wins Second League Title Ahead of Arsenal January Move

According to a report by the London Evening Standard on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Arsenal’s prospective January signing, Victor Ozhianvuna, has celebrated winning the League of Ireland title with Shamrock Rovers for the second consecutive season as he prepares for an expected move to north London in January 2027.

The 17-year-old forward, who has Nigerian roots through his father and Russian heritage through his mother, is expected to join Arsenal after turning 18. The move represents another important step in the youngster’s developing football career as he prepares to begin a new chapter in English football.

Shamrock Rovers confirmed their championship triumph on Friday with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Sligo Rovers. Their success was further strengthened by Bohemians’ 1-0 loss to Shelbourne, ensuring that Shamrock Rovers retained their league crown for a second successive campaign.

Ozhianvuna contributed to the club’s progress during the season despite being unavailable for the closing months because of an injury. He made 13 league appearances in 2025 before featuring in 18 matches during the current campaign.

The teenager particularly impressed in early May when he registered assists in consecutive fixtures against Drogheda United and Galway United. His performances generated excitement around his potential, with Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley suggesting that a senior international opportunity could eventually become realistic.

However, his development suffered a setback after he sustained a back injury that has kept him out of action for approximately five months. Bradley revealed in September that the problem was associated with growth-related complications affecting the player’s back and hips.

Arsenal have reportedly maintained close communication with Shamrock Rovers regarding his rehabilitation. Both clubs are understood to be taking a cautious approach, focusing on his complete recovery and long-term development instead of accelerating his return before he is ready.

The Premier League side reached an agreement to secure his services ahead of the proposed transfer, allowing him to remain in Ireland until he meets the age requirement. Reports suggest that Ozhianvuna is expected to sign a four-and-a-half-year contract that would keep him at Arsenal until 2031.

Shamrock Rovers could receive approximately €2 million (£1.68 million) from the transfer, with additional payments potentially included through a sell-on arrangement.

His latest championship success provides another significant achievement before his anticipated arrival at Arsenal. The youngster will now hope to recover fully and demonstrate his potential when he eventually makes the move to English football.
