Bulgaria and Estonia share points in goalless Nations League draw

According to a report by Flashscore on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Bulgaria and Estonia shared a 0-0 draw in UEFA Nations League Group C4 at Stadion Hristo Botev, leaving both teams still searching for their first victory of the campaign after two matches.

Neither side made much of an impression during the early stages, with the contest taking time to develop. Bulgaria eventually created two openings around the quarter-hour mark when Lukas Petkov and Zdravko Dimitrov both tried their luck from outside the penalty area, but neither effort found the target.

Estonia gradually became more involved and came close to breaking the deadlock after 28 minutes. Markus Poom stepped up for a free-kick from around 20 yards and saw his effort strike the woodwork, giving the visitors a major opportunity to take the lead.

Michael Schjonning-Larsen then threatened again for Estonia before the interval after making a direct run through the middle. However, his eventual effort rolled wide of the target. The first half ended without either goalkeeper being forced into a save, underlining the lack of clear-cut chances from both teams.

The second half initially followed the same cautious pattern before Estonia missed another excellent opportunity. A defensive mistake presented substitute Mattias Mannilaan with a clear sight of goal, but his close-range attempt was blocked just before it could cross the line.

Estonia appeared to have finally found the breakthrough midway through the half when Patrik Kristal headed the ball into the net. The effort, however, was immediately ruled out for offside, leaving the visitors still frustrated in front of goal.

Bulgaria came close to taking the lead with 20 minutes remaining when Ilia Gruev attempted to curl a left-footed effort into the net from around 20 yards. Estonia goalkeeper Karl Jakob Hein reacted brilliantly to keep the attempt out.

The visitors responded when Kristal drove narrowly wide after moving towards the edge of the penalty area. He had another chance in the closing stages, but Bulgaria goalkeeper Daniel Naumov produced a good save to deny him.

Neither team could produce the decisive moment before the final whistle, ensuring the points were shared. The result means Bulgaria have now managed only one victory across their last 11 competitive matches, while both teams remain without a win in their opening two Nations League fixtures this season.

Estonia are also still waiting for their first victory over Bulgaria in their history. Bulgaria will travel to Iceland for their next group match on Saturday, while Estonia are scheduled to host Luxembourg on the same day.

Flashscore named Kristian Dimitrov as the Man of the Match.
