According to a report by London Evening Standard on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, England international Harry Kane has been rewarded for an extraordinary year after winning the 2026 Ballon d'Or, with three exceptional performances playing an important role in his success.

The Bayern Munich striker enjoyed one of the finest campaigns of his professional career, delivering impressive performances for both club and country. His remarkable goalscoring form saw him register 73 goals across different competitions, helping Bayern Munich secure two domestic trophies while also guiding England to the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

At 33, Kane became the first English footballer to receive the prestigious individual award since Michael Owen achieved the feat in 2001. He finished ahead of several outstanding players, including Kylian Mbappe, Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi, during the award ceremony held at the London Palladium.

Although Kane produced numerous memorable displays throughout the year, three particular matches significantly strengthened his chances of winning the prestigious honour.

His performance against DR Congo during the 2026 World Cup was among his most important contributions. England found themselves trailing before their captain stepped forward to inspire a dramatic turnaround.

Kane brought his team level in the 75th minute after connecting with a delivery from Anthony Gordon. He subsequently completed the comeback in the 86th minute with a powerful right-footed strike, sending England into the knockout stages.

The Bayern Munich forward continued his impressive international form by finding the net against Mexico in the following round, equalling Gary Lineker's record for England goals in World Cup knockout matches.

Another remarkable performance came during Bayern Munich's Champions League semi-final encounter against Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite the German side suffering a narrow 5-4 defeat, Kane demonstrated his attacking quality by converting a penalty in the 17th minute and creating a scoring opportunity for teammate Luis Diaz.

His goal also established a notable Champions League record, making him the first English footballer to score in six consecutive matches in the competition.

However, his outstanding contribution in the DFB-Pokal final against Stuttgart arguably provided the perfect conclusion to his impressive domestic campaign.

Kane delivered a brilliant hat-trick as Bayern Munich secured a convincing 3-0 victory, completing their domestic double.

The England captain opened the scoring with a well-directed header before adding another goal through an excellent finish. He eventually completed his hat-trick by converting a penalty during stoppage time.

His three goals in the final took his overall tally in the competition to 10 goals from six appearances, underlining his importance to Bayern Munich's success.

These outstanding performances highlighted Kane's consistency, leadership and ability to deliver in important matches.

His contributions across domestic competitions, European football and international tournaments ultimately strengthened his reputation as one of the world's finest strikers and played a significant role in his reported 2026 Ballon d'Or triumph.
