NGA 1-0 VEN: Flamingos Beat Venezuela to Reach FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Semi-Finals

According to Flashscore on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos have secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after defeating Venezuela 1-0 in their quarter-final encounter in Morocco.

Captain Azeezat Oduntan proved to be Nigeria's hero after scoring the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 89th minute, sending the West African side into the last four of the competition.

The Flamingos entered the match with determination and immediately looked to take control of proceedings. However, despite creating several opportunities, they struggled to find a way past Venezuela's organised defence, which was marshalled by goalkeeper and captain Valeria Rebanales.

Tosin Rafiu, Mary Dunstan and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi were among the Nigerian players who attempted to break the deadlock. Oluebube Umejiaku also contributed to the attacking efforts as Nigeria searched for an early advantage.

Venezuela, however, were not completely on the defensive. Ariana Ojeda and Migleydys Bolsegui created opportunities for their team, forcing Nigeria to remain alert at the back.

The encounter became increasingly competitive as both sides battled for control. Nigeria's Favour Nkwocha received the first yellow card of the match in the 24th minute, while neither team managed to find the back of the net before the interval.

Following the restart, Nigeria continued to push forward in search of an opening goal. The Flamingos increased their attacking pressure, but Venezuela remained disciplined and made it difficult for the Nigerian youngsters to create clear scoring opportunities.

As the match approached its closing stages, it appeared that the quarter-final could require extra time. However, Nigeria finally found the breakthrough in the 89th minute when they were awarded a crucial penalty.

Captain Oduntan stepped forward and showed composure under pressure to convert the spot-kick, giving the Flamingos a valuable 1-0 lead with only minutes remaining.

Her late effort proved decisive as Nigeria successfully protected their advantage until the final whistle, ending Venezuela's hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

The hard-fought victory represents another important achievement for the Flamingos, who have now progressed into the last four of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

Nigeria will now turn their attention to the semi-final stage as they continue their pursuit of the tournament trophy in Morocco.
